Suitable for, but not limited to application to the following properly prepared substrates:
– Interior/Exterior: Wood doors & trim, shutters, siding, shakes, fencing, shingles, decks, beams, railings, patio furniture, shelves, assorted masonry substrates, etc.
Surface Preparation
General – The entire surface are to be painted should be clean, dry, sound and free from dirt, grease, oils, waxes, mildew, and any other surface contaminants that may adversely affect coating performance.
New or Bare Wood Substrates
Previously Painted/Stained Wood Substrates
Mildew
Surface areas affected by mildew should be treated with a commercial mildew removal and/or wash product carefully following manufacturer’s application and safety directions. Rinse thoroughly with clean water, and allow a minimum of 24 hours to dry thoroughly.
Tannin Wood Bleed
Surfaces effected by tannin wood bleeding should be cleaned thoroughly and allowed to dry. Southern Tradition Supreme is formulated to resist stain bleeding. However, more severe extractive staining may require the use of a stain-blocking oil-based primer. In some extreme cases, a second coat of primer may be needed.
Product Application
This product may be easily applied with a quality brush, roller, or airless spray equipment, as follows;
- Stir thoroughly in a spiral up and down motion before an during application.
- For best results, it is recommended to apply brush or roller to effectively work stain into wood pores.
- To assure color uniformity, intermix multiple containers of custom tinted and stock colors, and apply a small test area to verify color.
- When applying by brush or roller, apply an even and generous coat with the direction of the wood grain.
- When staining vertical wood siding, start at the top, applying stain to two or three boards, and work down to the bottom of the boards or until you come to a natural break in the surface, such as a corner or edge.
- When staining horizontal wood siding, start at the top corner, applying stain to two or three boards, and work across to the other end of the boards or until you come to a natural break in the surface, such as a corner or edge.
- When applying by airless spray equipment, use a unit with a minimum of 2000 psi of pressure, with a 0.017″ – 0.019″ fluid spray tip.
- During spray application, it i recommended to back-roll the surface area to ensure an even coat application, and to effectively work stain into wood pores.
- To assure coating uniformity, always paint to a natural break in the surface, such as a corner or edge and maintain a wet edge during application by brushing, rolling or spraying into previously applied coating area.
- Avoid exterior paint application when weather conditions are threatening, and late in the day when there is a threat of moisture condensing on newly painted surfaces.
- Apply when surface and ambient temperatures are above 35 degrees F and below 90 degrees F. Painted surfaces should not drop below 35 degrees F for at least 24 hours after applications.
- Note: Color tinted in Deep & Accent Bases must be applied at temperature above 50 degrees F
Estimated coverage: Covers approximately 200 – 400 square feet per gallon, depending on application method, as well as surface texture and porosity.
Estimated drying time: Dries to touch in approximately 1 0 2 hours, for recoat in 4-6 hours, depending on conditions.
Clean up: Clean up minor spills and spatters immediately with soap and water, as well as all painting tools and spray equipment. More serious paint spills should be contained and removed with inert absorbent material. Dispose of contaminated absorbent, container and unused contents in accordance with local, state federal regulations.
Thinning: Stir thoroughly and apply as it comes from the container. Thinning is not necessary. However, if thinning is required, you mad add clean water up to 1/2 pint per gallon.
